You already know that PKW Motorwerks loves everything about European automobiles. This is why we service and maintain them. What about the American consumer, however? Which European automobiles do they like the best? The only way to answer that question is by checking out European vehicle sales, and according to Statista, the following European makes and models sold the best in the United States during the last quarter (October through December) of 2019.
1. Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz remains the leader in American automobile sales. This European automobile manufacturer has always produced beautiful and reliable vehicles their owners just love. Mercedes-Benz automobiles are also known for longevity, which is why you see many on the road that are decades old. How many Mercedes-Benzes were sold near the end of 2019? An astounding 103,363 says Statista.
2. BMW
No matter how hard it tries, BMW cannot seem to surpass its German competitor. Both Mercedes-Benz and BMW are German-manufactured automobiles, and BMW’s largest manufacturing plant in the world is here in the United States. Still, BMW ranks second on our list. In the last quarter of 2019, it sold 92,399 BMW vehicles here – mostly crossover models as this is what is primarily made in the U.S.
3. Volkswagen
For those who would love to own a Mercedes-Benz or BMW but can’t afford them, Volkswagen offers German engineering at an affordable price, which is why it ranks three on the total vehicles sold in the U.S. in the last quarter of last year. Whether the adorable Beetle or the fuel-efficient Jetta, 85,167 Americans bought a Volkswagen during the last quarter of 2019. Which model do you like best?
4. Audi
Another luxury brand is Audi. This is also a German brand that is owned by Volkswagen Group, which also sells Bentley and Porsche among other makes. Audi has gained in popularity in the United States over the last decade, and toward the end of 2019, 65,640 Americans bought an Audi. As great as Audis are, and we love them, be honest, wouldn’t you rather speed down the highway in a Porsche?
5. Volvo
The fact that Sweden’s Volvo is further down in sales means that most Americans prefer aesthetics over safety. Well, maybe not, but at 30,802 vehicles sold, Volvo ranks far behind Audi even though it is fifth on our list. For your teen driver, you can’t go wrong with a Volvo. These cars have always been known for their advanced safety systems that keep drivers safer than other makes and models.
