WHAT IS CARBON BUILD-UP?
Direct injection vehicles require a little extra care compared to the traditional port injection vehicles. Carbon build-up on BMW direct injection engines is inevitable. Its just a matter of time until your vehicle starts losing the power it once had. If you notice your BMW is starting to act sluggish, along with a loss in gas mileage, you are definitely in need of a carbon cleaning or “walnut blast.”
Traditional fueling, or port injection, sprays fuel on the valves which, in turn, continuously cleans the valves. Direct injection sprays the fuel directly into the cylinder, skipping right over the valves, leaving carbon build-up. These vehicles have countless pros when it comes to efficiency, this happens to be their only con.
Carbon build-up restricts air flow to the vehicle’s engine causing any number of the following problems:
- Engine Misfire
- Rough Idle at Cold Start
- Engine Vibrates or Shakes
- Check Engine Light
If you experience any of these drivability issues, give us a call. Carbon cleaning or “walnut shell blasting” typically takes less than a day and we can get you back on the road feeling like you are in a brand new BMW again. Get that horsepower back that you have been missing. This graph shows you an example of how carbon blasting can improve horsepower.
